Cowboy
Envy, in the tradition of the original singing cowboy, performs
Western music from the thirties and forties. Drawing upon the
repertoires of such artists as Roy Rogers, Sons of the
Pioneers, Gene Autry and others, each member brings
a variety of influences to the presentation of this music. Their
voices blend as beautifully as the Andrews Sisters, but
their sound is bolstered by a strong strumming guitar and bass
and punctuated by a healthy dose of rollicking abandon and humor.
The
members are Berne Poliakoff (lead vocals, whip cracks and
stampedes), Dede Vogt (vocals, bass, harmonica and mandolin)
and Kathleen Hatfield (vocals and guitars), otherwise known
as "Frenchie, Too Short and Buffalo K," respectively.
Cowboy Envy combines quality musicianship with spirited tales
of the West and unbridles that cowboy fascination that lives in
all of us.

Envy - Unhitched
Ranger Doug says this about Unhitched:
"It is an act of art to balance irony, pure silliness,
and contemporary sensibility with deep love and obnoxious
respect for tradition. For several years now Cowboy Envy
has achieved this magic balance beautifully, adding showmanship,
musicianship, and superb original music to the mix as well.
They are the freshest thing going in Western music today."

Envy - Wagons Ho!
Well, a few miles further down the trail, we find Frenchy,
Too Short and Buffalo K still ridin'. Their backsides are
a little sorer, but their harmonies are as sweet as ever.
Too Short has written the beautiful title song "Wagons
Ho" and "Prairie Rose" - a song about their
real life cowgirl. Frenchy's "I Left His Heart ( in
San Francisco)' is the only known cowboy tribute to Tony
Bennett, Buffalo K's "Sunrise on the Plains" has
one of the most gorgeous melodies ever heard. Frenchy and
Too Short wrote a dreamy love song called "Fire on
the Range". But remember, for full impact, you must
experience Cowboy Envy live!
And
so, saddle pals, always sit up straight, buckle your seat
belts, drink your milk, and remember that Frenchy is the
star of the show on this CD - and the last one, and on every
one to come!

Envy - Real Cowboy Girl
The reasons for Cowboy Envy's origins seem as obscure as
the reason that men saddle cows, but this we do know: their
rhythms kick like a branded heifer, their harmonies thwart
the ambition of singing birds, and their humor makes folks
in big Western States pause for a moment.
